The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has been temporarily shut down after a Saudi Airline cargo plane blocked its runaway when it developed a mechanical fault.
Hundreds of passengers were stranded at the airport
The Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) was forced to temporarily close the airport to air traffic on Thursday, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at the airport.
The aircraft reportedly landed at the airport at 9 pm on Wednesday, but immediately developed a minor problem after landing.
NAMA issued a notice to airmen on Thursday morning, announcing that the airport had been closed to inbound and outbound planes.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to fix the grounded faulty plane and clear the runway was ongoing.
Thousands of local and international passengers use the facility daily, being the main airport serving the capital city of Nigeria.
